Obesity in Mexico: an approach to the social perspective in the last 16 years. Inter disciplina [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.26, pp.91-117.  Epub 04-Abr-2022. This paper had two objectives: to order and analyze some articles published in Mexico since 2004, in which overweight and obesity have been the principal objects of study from a socioeconomic and cultural point of view, and identify categories, variables and concepts predominant in these researches. It was a bibliographic review. The articles were ordered by year and the categories and variables were analyzed. There were 93 articles published and revised in the last 16 years. The analytical variables most used in the literature were: economic crisis, epidemic, healthy lifestyles, epidemiological transition, obesogenic environment, “diabesidad”, genetic and environmental factors, food habits “transculturalización”, ecological context, sedentary lifestyle, multifactorial disease, migration, socialization patterns, gender and Westernization. Food education, health promotion and physical activity are the main strategies mentioned to prevent obesity. Although almost all of the literature emphasizes the multifactorial aspects of obesity and overweight, women were considered the “responsible for the obesity of sons and daughters”. The conclusions are diverse, but insisted on continuing to study the issue and review the actions of the State and food companies.

Palavras-chave : overweight; obesity; epidemic; determinant.
