The aim of this paper is to rethink some social problems about food and the phenomena of nutritional and epidemiological transition (FNT-E), that Mexican rural women confront, face at expansion of capitalist domination on global agro-food systems. Due to the diversity of rural contexts that define the Mexican countryside, the paper addresses a major question that guides the reflection on the dilemmas of having access to food, feeding oneself and feeding oneself without putting one’s health at risk: Does the current diet of Mexican rural women compromise the redress of food sovereignty in terms of good eating? To answer this question, the problem of overweight and obesity associated with malnutrition was chosen as a topic for discussion, in the multihazard-food focus method. With the experiences that illustrate the answer, it is intended, at the same time, to debate if the current diet of rural women puts at risk the redressing of food sovereignty in terms of good eating. Through a decolonial look, the dominant capitalist narratives that have produced knowledge of this problem are analyzed, strengthening the commodification of life processes, which complicates the liberation of the patriarchy and its instrumentalization that subjects rural, indigenous, and peasant women to new power relations. By recognizing these relationships in the mechanisms or instruments of reason that explain FNT-E and its effects on women’s health, the article rescues elements that can contribute to the formation of a critical mass of women and with it, a proposal could be developed to rescue food sovereignty in its just ethical dimension, friendly to nature and promoting a culture of care and peace.
