FLORES-CANO, Olga; REYES-LAGUNES, Isabel; RIVERA-ARAGON, Sofía  e  MANSILLA-CORONA, Ricardo. Subjective well-being and its study with semantic networks in linear and non-linear analysis. Inter disciplina [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.20, pp.153-167.  Epub 14-Ago-2020. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2019.18.71207.

Background: semantic networks allow to define a mental model structure showing the underlining culture. It can help to find Mexico City’s dwellers representation about the subjective well-being. Objective: the aim was to obtain a culturally relevant definition of subjective well-being with semantic networks, psychological and graph theories. Method: using semantic networks define well-being, satisfaction and happiness. The sample (N = 207) were volunteers, men and women (52%), dwellers of Mexico City, older than 18 years of age (x̅ = 35.62 years). Analysis included linear and nonlinear measures. Results: the well- being, happiness and satisfaction differentiated and complemented each other with dimensions (relationships, basic needs, resources) and components (emotion affect). The weighted frequencies highlighted salience of words health, calmness, family, happiness, peace. The geodesic distances remained short with the highest betweenness-centrality for health, calmness, work, happiness, satisfaction and security. Discussion and conclusions: the subjective well-being components and dimensions expected from the theory were found with the semantic networks. Happiness and satisfaction added the affect component. The geodesic distances were short and organized into five main modules: health, family, work and calmness. The representation converged the proposed elements of both the theory and the ones from inhabitants of Mexico City, into a culturally relevant definition.
