Mexico is currently undergoing a process of generalized decomposition, both in its economy and in its government institutions, which seem incapable of guaranteeing security, electoral certainty and respect for minimum rights, such as free transit, freedom of expression, health or education. In addition to taking into account the internal elements that have made this crisis possible, such as the implementation of “neoliberal” policies and the consequent abandonment of social policies, this article attempts to frame national events in global processes of state reconfiguration. Given this, it is necessary to start from a general understanding of the intrinsic relationship between capitalism and State, as expressions of modernity, to then be able to account for the impact that this relationship has on the orientation and transformation of government structures and subjectivities. In this sense, violence appears as an expression of the construction of a new legitimacy in State and capitalist domination. Thus, peace cannot be restricted to the mere cessation of criminal violence. Its search necessarily goes through the question of social justice.
