The present contribution describes the research work on catalysis and catalytic materials that has been carried out and developed for a period of approximately forty years at the Metropolitan Autonomous University - Azcapotzalco (UAM-A). The Metropolitan Autonomous University was founded in 1974 and hereby we point out relevant aspects on catalysis research that have took place from that date up to present times. The description includes research projects, research fields under study, laboratory facilities, instrumentation, contribution to first degree and graduate teaching and national and international collaboration links and funding, of the different research groups affiliated to the academic departments of the Metropolitan Autonomous University - Azcapotzalco.
