This document briefly describes the origin and goals of the National Institute of Nuclear Research (ININ) and a general view of its activities dedicated to the development of nanoscience and nanotechnology, within the frame of the institutional research lines through the development of several projects. Research lines, contributions, patents and main achievements obtained through the years in this field are included. Also, the infrastructure available to perform research on nanomaterials and their applications focused on energy, health and environment. The importance of national and international collaborative work and human resources training are emphasized. Finally, the development research prospects on this field in our Institution are presented.
