Gold nanoparticles enriched products has considerable increased in the last years. Beside their cosmetic use nanoAu therapy is now considered as a novel alternative to treat a diversity of diseases, including cancer. Nonetheless there are no sufficient research about the possible toxic effects of these nanoAu particles over cells or the whole organism to be safetly use as anticancer-drugs or about it teratogenic effects during development. Cardiac septation is a very important and controlled process during development in humans and birds which basically consist in shifting unidirectional blood flow into bidirectional. This event is highly susceptible to stress. The aim of this work was to test the possible gold nanoparticles teratogenic effects during the cardiac development on chicken embryos as this model is very well accepted because it allows direct embryonic manipulation. Our results showed: 1. A 7.9-fold increase in the mortality rate due to gold nanoparticles exposure when compared with the control groups. 2. Cardiogenetic defects after gold nanoparticles exposure as double outlet right ventricle that was always accompanied with interventricular communication. The data presented show the adverse effects of nanoAu exposure during embryonic development.
