GARZA MONTEMAYOR, Daniel Javier de la. The Fourth Transfer of Power in the Mexican State of Nuevo León since the Transition to Democracy: Social Networks, Polarization, Regional Identity and the Rebellion against Centralism. Rev. mex. opinión pública [online]. 2022, n.32, pp.135-149. Epub 08-Abr-2022. ISSN 2448-4911. https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.24484911e.2022.32.80652.
This article seeks to provide a brief account of the most relevant aspects of the conditions that surrounded the election in the Mexican state of Nuevo León. It will analyze some of the main electoral characteristics of the entity that make it a special case study in Mexico, examining the conditions, actors and results of the 2021 electoral process with a historical perspective that considers the last quarter of a century. This text also reviews the voting intention of the voters before and during the campaigns, as well as the strategies of the main contenders. The importance of social networks for the political communication of the different actors is also observed, as is the strong regionalist sentiment that prevails in the area. Preliminary conclusions confirm that Nuevo León is an atypical case in electoral matters, which is reflected in the fact that voters have consistently opted for alternation, and the results confirm an atomization of the vote that differs from what occurs in most of the other states.
