The participation of citizens is an essential component of democracy, because being as the first step of it is the vote, we must recognize that there are different forms of participation, where all are necessary for individuals to have social and political rights and obligations, to that leaders are key elements in maintaining the political system and they should perform their duties properly, as the representation of the social sectors and to accomplish considering the rules of democratic values. Against this background the citizen is linked to the political system through the media, in addition to greater awareness of the phenomenon of power, perceived as something that the citizen is entitled. This paper analyzes the political-electoral participation of university students in the state of Nuevo Leon, to assessing the role of the media and its influence in shaping political attitudes. Therefore an explanatory model of electoral politics participation considering these variables is proposed.
