Abstract

DANOBEITIA CEBALLOS, Olatz. Crossroads in Political Militancy: The Case of Basque Women Abertzale Left (1990-2000). Rev. interdiscip. estud. género Col. Méx. [online]. 2022, vol.8, e819.  Epub Oct 03, 2022. ISSN 2395-9185.  https://doi.org/10.24201/reg.v8i1.819.

This article analyses the political culture in the Basque pro-independence left-wing movement in the 1990s and 2000s. Through the itineraries of three women involved in this movement, the paradigm of sacrifice is explored as one of the main features in this political culture. It also examines criticism, changes and proposals made in the current political scenario with the aim of contributing to a feminist approach to memory. Feminist theory allows us to raise the profile of alternative political subjects, to introduce different contents in the political agenda, open up new debates, and suggest alternative approaches. The article concludes that in the current political context, meanings are continually resignified, blurring the boundaries between the private and the public, the political and non-political, broadening the conceptualisation of what it means to work collectively while imagining new ways invigorate and experience politics.

Keywords : political culture; memory; feminism; armed conflicts.
