Resumen

FERRARIS, Sabrina A.  y  MARTINEZ SALGADO, Mario. Sustaining Life: Paid and Unpaid Work Trajectories for Women in Mexico. Rev. interdiscip. estud. género Col. Méx. [online]. 2022, vol.8, e883.  Epub 15-Ago-2022. ISSN 2395-9185.  https://doi.org/10.24201/reg.v8i1.883.

This paper analyzes how women's lifetimes spent in paid and unpaid work are combined in Mexico. Similarly, in the understanding that people’s lives are defined by the interweaving of historical and personal factors, it is interesting to note the intergenerational differences between women, as well as to highlight inequalities based on social backgrounds and areas of socialization. From the perspective of feminist economics, the article seeks to reveal how women’s domestic and unpaid care work is essential in economic analysis and in the sustaining life. Therefore, we apply a multidimensional sequence analysis to a set of women interviewed in the Retrospective Demographic Survey EDER, 2017 to reconstruct a typology of careers that combine paid and unpaid work.
