ARAIZA DIAZ, Alejandra; VARGAS MARTINEZ, Flor Carina e MEDECIGO DANIEL, Uriel. Typifying Feminicide in Mexico. A Bridge Between Sociological and Legal Perspectives. Rev. interdiscip. estud. género Col. Méx. [online]. 2020, vol.6, e468. Epub 09-Set-2020. ISSN 2395-9185. https://doi.org/10.24201/reg.v6i0.468.
The incidence of violent murders of women in Mexico has introduced terms such as femicide and femicide violence. However, in practice these terms lack genuine legal repercussions, and this article seeks to build a bridge between sociological and legal issues surrounding them. Using hermeneutic analysis, we examine texts to explore the conceptual underpinnings of gender violence and femicide violence in order to make a connection with legal discussions on typifying femicide. In conclusion, the typification of femicide is seen to help unmask this problem, which is the subject of a vast body of academic work. This must bring about effective administration of justice and prosecution, not only the drafting of new laws.
