HERNANDEZ GUTIERREZ, Julia. Good girls don’t shout: anorexia and challenges to femininity in young women in Leon, Guanajuato. Rev. interdiscip. estud. género Col. Méx. [online]. 2015, vol.1, n.1, pp.131-156. Epub 24-Fev-2021. ISSN 2395-9185. https://doi.org/10.24201/eg.v1i1.20.
Parting from youth studies as well as a gender approach, we suggest an interpretation of anorexia nervosa related particularly with life and experiences of young women who suffer from this eating disorder, given their age and considering gender demands related with girls. Based on the consideration from above, our aim is to discover if young women living with anorexia are docile and silently indeed ―as it is “proper of their gender”― and if they really attend to the claim of being skinny and “good girls”. In this article, we propose that, on the contrary, anorexia could be related with certain ways to resist the exigencies from their environment, which may demonstrate the irony of facades and the anger that could be retained in their pretended delicate body. This paper is based in a research conducted in León, Guanajuato.
