Resumen

PORRAS-RUIZ, Mariana Andrea; VILORIA, Maria  y  LOPEZ-SALAZAR, Ricardo. Risk eating behaviors, BMI and body satisfaction in young students from Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.58, e211097.  Epub 22-Ago-2022. ISSN 2395-9169.  https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v31i58.1097.

Objective:

Analyze Risk Eating Behaviors (CAR) and their correlation with the Body Mass Index (BMI) and body satisfaction, through a cross-sectional descriptive study with 141 students aged 11 to 15 years from a secondary school in the municipality of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Methodology:

Cross-sectional correlational study with 141 students aged 11 to 15 from a secondary school in the municipality of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. CAR, SC, weight and height were evaluated. With the calculated BMI, the participants were classified as underweight, normal weight and overweight, in addition, they were asked to self-classify in one of these categories; thus, there were two nutritional states, the calculated and the perceived.

Results:

The results indicate a prevalence of CAR of 5.67%, without correlation with BMI, but with body satisfaction.

Limitations:

It is necessary to carry out a study of the present characteristics with a much greater coverage than the current one. On the one hand, this will generate more information on the various aspects that may be motivating the development of CAR in adolescents and, in turn, would serve as input for the design of health policies aimed at its prevention and reduction.

Conclusions:

CARs represent a public health problem that must be tackled from the early stages in the subject's social development, depending on the serious effects on personal health. Finally, it is suggested that in basic education schools, strategies and actions are developed and implemented to guide young people about balanced diets that promote a healthy body, but free from stereotypes of beauty and extreme thinness.
