The current status and perspectives of green diesel production by means of hydrotreatment of second-generation vegetable oil are reported. Aspects such as available technologies to produce green diesel, typical hydrotreatment reaction conditions, raw materials, types of catalysts, reaction kinetics and also normative issues are shown regarding green diesel in order to attain the same quality of such biofuel in comparison with fossil fuel.
