ARGUELLO CABRERA, Libertad. Homicides, Everydayness, and the “War on Drugs”. Atoyac de Álvarez, Guerrero (2007-2014). Iztapalapa. Rev. cienc. soc. humanid. [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.87, pp.175-203.  Epub 20-Nov-2019. ISSN 2007-9176.  https://doi.org/10.28928/ri/872019/aot2/arguellocabreral.

Analyzing the case of Atoyac de Álvarez, Guerrero, allows to observe some micro social effects produced by the rose of homicides during the ‘war on drugs’ in a semi-rural context marked by the absence of the National State, the coexistence of ‘the facto sovereignties’, and persisting formal impunity. Ethnosociological field work research shows the ‘War on Drugs’ promoted the illegibility of certain homicides, transforming the everyday life, through new strategies for self-presenting towards others, changing limits between the public and domestic spaces, and creating social adscription criteria, all of which is mediated by mistrust and the fear of becoming a victim of homicide.

Palavras-chave : sovereign power; everyday life; impunity; violence; Mexico.
