ARZOLA-GONZALEZ, Juan Francisco et al. Artificial nesting and incubation of olive ridley sea turtle Lepidochelys olivácea (Testudines: Cheloniidae) eggs. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2019, vol.6, n.18, pp.595-599. Epub 20-Fev-2020. ISSN 2007-901X. https://doi.org/10.19136/era.a6n18.1971.
The nesting frequency and hatching percentage in artificial olive ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea; Testudines: Cheloniidae) nests collected on different beaches (Cerritos, Zona Dorada, Malecón, Pinitos, Olas Altas) in the bay of Mazatlán, Mexico was determined. Polyurethane boxes were used for artificial nest incubation. An average hatching of 75.2% (± 19.3) was obtained. To prevent egg predation, it is important to maintain artificial incubation in polyurethane boxes. Due to the higher incidence of nests on Malecón (75.5 ± 12.4 beach nests per year) and Cerritos (51.3 ± 26.5 beach nests per year) beaches, with 11.5 and 8.3 nests km-1, respectively, it is necessary to increase their surveillance.
