Abstract

PEREZ-FERNANDEZ, Alberto; RIVAS-MARTINEZ, Mayra lliana; CAAMAL-CAUICH, Ignacio  and  MARTINEZ-LUIS, David. Production of bioethanol and its impact on the price of agricultural products in México. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2017, vol.4, n.12, pp.597-602. ISSN 2007-901X.  https://doi.org/10.19136/era.a4n12.977.

Pollution issues from the use of petroleum products lead to the search for new sources of energy, such as bioethanol. The objective of the study was to estímate the Marshallian and Hicksian demand elasticities by applying the almost ideal demand System with apparently unrelated equations and the use of the Stone price index. The results show that the five products have an inelastic demand; however, corn is the only one that showed to be a higher good; therefore, it is necessary to increase and redistribute corn production to avoid damaging the population acquisition capacity.

Keywords : Demand; Hicksian elasticity; Marshallian elasticity; Stone index.
