Resumen

CANALES-ISLAS, Enrique Inoscencio et al. Fertile and male-sterile seed production maize under different plant densities. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2017, vol.4, n.12, pp.465-473. ISSN 2007-901X.  https://doi.org/10.19136/era.a4n12.997.

The objective was to determine the grain yield of four maize (Zea mays L.) three-way hybrids with male sterile and fertile, the mix ratio of male sterile (AE) and fertile (F) seeds, in 50 000 to 70 000 plants ha-1 population densities. Four experiments were carried out during the 2012 spring-summer cycle: two in Cuautitlán Izcalli and two in Santa Lucia, Texcoco, in the State of Mexico, under the punta de riego system one or two irrigations at the start, followed by rainfed irrigation. Yield variance analysis detected significance (p ≤ 0.01) between environments, genotypes, population densities, and genotype x environment interaction, as well as male sterile and fertile seed ratio (p ≤ 0.05). The greater yields were found in hybrid H-53 (7 438 kg ha-1) and the Cuautitlán Izcalli environment, in the second sowing date (6 877 kg ha-1). The 70 000 plants ha-1 density had a 6 534 kg ha-1 yield, while the 50 000 plants ha-1 density had a 6 038 kg ha-1 yield. The treatment with 100 % AE seeds (6 540 kg ha-1) was higher than the treatment with fertile seeds (6 113 kg ha-1); the 33 % AE and 67 % F seeds ratio (6 290 kg ha-1) and the 66 % AE and 34 % F ratio (6 200 kg ha-1) were statistically similar. In practice, the 66 % AE and 34 % F combination is better for seed production.
