Resumen

NAVARRO-ESPINOZA, Sofía et al. Nanoparticles: human health effects and environment. Epistemus (Sonora) [online]. 2021, vol.15, n.30, pp.58-64.  Epub 26-Jun-2023. ISSN 2007-8196.  https://doi.org/10.36790/epistemus.v15i30.166.

Recently, nanotechnology has been a topic of great interest that offers considerable advantages in many areas. The characteristics of many everyday consumer products are significantly improved when they are nanostructured. As a result, nanoparticles have now been integrated into food, construction materials, as well as beauty and personal care products, among others. In this sense, in recent years, their use has increased significantly, leading to the unregulated release of these nanomaterials into the environment. Environmental exposure to nanoparticles has a negative effect on various organs in humans. In addition, their environmental accumulation affects natural processes by damaging organisms and plants. This article describes the exposure pathways and hazards relevant to humans, with a brief introduction to the emerging literature on their ecotoxicology.
