Resumen

TIRADO SEGURA, Ricardo de Jesús. The sacrifice policy: symbols and myths in Javier Sicilia’s Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2019, vol.13, n.26, pp.161-196. ISSN 2007-8110.  https://doi.org/10.28965/2019-26-07.

This article aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (MPJD) led by Javier Sicilia in the first years of this decade. Much of its impact was due to its original meaning frame and the expressive actions of meaning that it displayed; especially ritual performances enhanced by the interpellation of victims and audiences, sufferings, evoking ancient and powerful symbols and myths of the universal, Catholic and national tradition. They highlighted the symbol of spilled blood and the myth of sacrifice which together suggest they deserve a moral compensation for the pains they suffered. The explanatory capacity of several concepts could also be tested, in order to confirm the crucial importance that meaning frames have in social movements and political struggles.

Palabras llave : Javier Sicilia; Movimiento por la Paz con Justicia y Dignidad; social movement; performances; symbols; myths.
