Over the past few years, at a moment when studies on youth identities have experienced a great boom, several disciplinary studies on ways of problematizing, analyzing and understanding youth in its different, complex and heterogeneous forms of existence have been developed. This paper is part of a study on the discursive constructions and representations of young people in Argentina. The purpose of this research is to reveal the meaning matrices regarding the meaning of being young or, more specifically, what certain social discourses have been delineating as youth. In order to achieve this, the text of Grounds of Act 26774 (Youth Vote Act) enacted in October 2012 during Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s presidency (2007-2015) is taken as the corpus of analysis. Discourse Studies gain relevance since they make it possible to address this issue in its various micro and macro communicative dimensions, including all levels of analysis, among which I highlight the semantic-ideological level as a necessary and final level of any research on this field. The theoretical framework takes into consideration Critical Discourse Studies contributions, which put forth discourse representations of group ideologies, as well as connections among discourse, power, and social cognition. The main aim of this text and the results obtained seek to contribute to a better understanding of the ideological influences which are at the basis of discourse constructions regarding the social and political position of young people in Argentina.
