JIMENEZ MARTINEZ, Nancy Merary. Waste: urban product, matter of public intervention and purpose of the Integrated Waste Management. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2017, vol.11, n.22, pp.158-192. ISSN 2007-8110.
Garbage, rubbish or waste are some of the terms used to refer to what no longer serves and has ceased to be of use. Municipal solid waste refers to those materials, resulting from daily activities carried out, which are discarded because they are no longer considered useful. These materials are present in all stages of our life. However, despite being so commonplace, one wonders how did its negative perception arise? At what point did we realize that its existence became problematic for urban management? What strategies have been used to face this problem? These are the questions we try to answer in this text that approaches some considerations on waste from its existence to its configuration as an urban problem and object of public intervention, specifically in the political strategy that has been deployed to face it: the integrated management of municipal solid waste.
