GUERRERO TAPIA, Alfredo y CUADRA TREVINO, Julia Alicia. The Psychosocial construction of Otherness: Racism in Mexico. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2013, vol.8, n.15, pp.73-96. ISSN 2007-8110.
In this work we study in depth the different psychosocial, ideological and cultural processes involved in the construction of otherness, within the historical framework of discrimination and racism in Mexico. Based on the results of empirical research carried out with students from four States, and results obtained from the National Survey on Discrimination, it can be observed that psychosocial dimensions such as recognition, fear, threat, evaluation, prejudice, attitudes and stereotypes play an important, and sometimes contradictory, role, in the dialectic identity of mimesis/differentiation. Awareness of such complex phenomena and recognition of the manifest, latent but sharp existence of racism in Mexico, may offer guidelines for the construction of self-improvement modalities.
