What is presented here is a part of a research carried out in order to explain the role that collective identity plays in the development of social movements in Xoxocotla, Morelos and to identify the cultural repercussions of the above mentioned movements. The influence of the social movements in the configuration of collective identity of the xocoltecos is analyzed as well as the way in which it determines the type of participation of social actors. In the development of this research a qualitative approach was adopted which allowed us to capture the subjectivity of the informants in order to extract the vision and symbolic construction that social actors have about themselves, the social movements and the world that surrounds them.
