On Friday, the 30th of October, 2009, the Permanent Seminar "Culture and Social Representations" celebrated its ten years of uninterrupted existence with a special session at the Institute of Social Investigations of the UNAM, where the guest of honor, doctor Philippe Corcuff (from the Institute of Political Studies, Lyons, France), debated with the academic audience the ideas exposed in two of his articles published by the electronic journal Culture and Social Representations (www.culturayrs.org.mx) publishing organ of the above mentioned Seminar: "Figures of individuality: from Marx to the contemporary sociologies" (year 2, n° 4, March, 2008); and "Bourdieu read otherwise" (year 4, n° 7, September, 2009). Due to the interest that the topics debated in the above mentioned session arose, we have transcribed entirely the debate for our readers, preserving the oral style of the interventions. It is necessary to point out that in order to fully understand the arguments presented in this debate, previous reading of both mentioned articles is required.
