Today, narco trafficking has become one of the symbols of the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. Indeed, a whole new type of culture, grounded in local popular traditions, has emerged in this region around the cultivation and trafficking of drugs. This article analyzes the varying expressions of this "new culture," especially those related to the mass media, the local economy and popular religion as well as the overwhelming role of narco traffickers themselves in the "channeling" of this culture.
