Resumen

ATLATENCO IBARRA, Quetzalli; GARZA CARRANZA, María Teresa de la  y  LOPEZ LEMUS, Jorge Armando. Contributory pensions as a source of income in the old age foreseen by young Mexicans. Entreciencias: diálogos soc. conoc. [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.22, e2276243.  Epub 15-Mar-2021. ISSN 2007-8064.  https://doi.org/10.22201/enesl.20078064e.2020.22.76243.

Purpose:

To analyze the impact both sociodemographic variables and financial knowledge have on the probability of young Mexicans’ expectations to finance their old age with contributory pensions.

Methodological design:

Both the information obtained in the 2018 national financial inclusion survey for young people between 18 and 29 years of age and a binary logistic regression were used.

Results:

Sex, marital status, size of locality and region, educational level, job income, and knowledge of inflation are significant variables of the proposed model.

Research limitations:

The predictive variables included in the model are those included in the national survey of financial inclusion; however, it is feasible to include others related to health status, literacy, household members, among others.

Findings:

Being a woman and a spouse decrease the probability of expecting to receive a pension while other variables that were significant, increase the probability.

Palabras llave : Mexican youth; old-age financing; financial planning; financial knowledge; binary logistic regression.
