The Convention on All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) creates the conditions for the eradication of discrimination and the pursuit of gender equality. Ecuador has been its signatory since 1980 and its optional protocol since 1999, seeking to comply with the provisions of this convention. According to recent data, by 2020, in Ecuador 65 out of 100 women have been victims of violence in some area throughout their lives. The present study that seeks to determine the causes of the permanence of such high rates of violence against women in Ecuador despite having the regulations granted by CEDAW in the country.
