Objective:

Describe the scientific production on analysis of health situation in cuban journals of health Sciences indexed in Scielo in the period 2000 to 2016.

Materials and methods:

A bibliometric descriptive study. Review is made of the scientific production on analysis of health situation from January 2000 to 2016.

Results:

From a total of 387 journals on Health Sciences Indexed in Scielos 10.3% were Cuban journals, with total of 43 articles, journals of more publications were Public Health and Integral General Medicine, over 60 per cent were original works, according to the scope of the topic predominated the evaluative approach and the proposal of methodologies for its study revealed the category passer-by in more than 66% as the largest record.

Conclusions:

The scientific production published on the analysis of the health situation corresponds with the current context, is approach from evaluative studies and contributions of methodological alternatives, which enrich the theoretical foundations of the theme. However, it requires the development of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research teams that systematize this research line, as well as the wider dissemination of the results that contribute to the decision-making with scientific evidence for the achievement of better management in health.
