Northern Tepehuan or Ódami is a Uto-Aztecan language of the Tepiman branch. This document provides a critical overview of the available studies on the language proposing three phases for understanding the development of its descriptive tradition. Furthermore, it identifies future research areas that are urgent and those that are of a particular descriptive and theoretical interest.
