AUDIFFRED JARAMILLO, Ricardo Ignacio et al. Social Functioning in Schizophrenia and High Expressed Emotionality from a Family Perspective. Psicumex [online]. 2022, vol.12, e465. Epub 13-Jan-2023. ISSN 2007-5936. https://doi.org/10.36793/psicumex.v12i1.465.
The aim of this research was to analyze the association between family perception regarding social functioning of people with schizophrenia and expressed emotionality. The design of this research was mixed, with an analytical-relational approach for cognitive anthropological studies. The sample consisted of 40 individuals, from 18 different families of people diagnosed with schizophrenia, included with a simple randomized sampling. A valid cultural consensus was found on social functioning of people with schizophrenia. The activities that were part of the family's perception about social functioning involved activities of daily living such as: personal hygiene, cooking, working, and taking their medication. Participants who focused their attention on capacities had a lower EE (p < .001). We conclude that the vision focused on the skills that provide autonomy, break down the social barriers to the inclusion of people with schizophrenia.
