Resumen

ARGUERO FONSECA, Aimée; FIGUEROA FONSECA, María del Rocío  y  LOPEZ BENTRAN, Iván. Experiences of a Telepsychotherapeutic Group Through the COVID-19 Pandemic. Psicumex [online]. 2021, vol.11, e423.  Epub 28-Feb-2022. ISSN 2007-5936.  https://doi.org/10.36793/psicumex.v11i1.423.

The objective of the present qualitative research study was to analyze the narrative experiences of a group of volunteer psychotherapists offering telepsychological care in a public university in Mexico. The sample consisted of 39 psychologists (all but 2 of which were from Mexico) representing 7 states throughout the country. The majority of the participants were women (n=28) ranging from 23 to 57 years of age. An information content analysis was performed based on follow-up responses (entered into Google Forms) to a program of four brief virtual cognitive behavioral psychotherapy sessions. Results were compared with a short questionnaire regarding personal experiences from 18 of the psychotherapists, divided into two groups based on age (over and under 30 years). The results indicate that a significant improvement was perceived in most of the patients as the sessions progressed regarding emotions, thoughts, behaviors, somatizations, and interpersonal relationships, thereby obtaining sufficient motivation to continue with their voluntary work. Psychotherapists over 30 expressed the need for more feedback and recognition, while the younger cohort indicated that they would like access to more patients and needed greater supervision.
