Introduction

The evaluation of the clinical aptitude of the medical interns in social service, is a priority indicator for the improvement in the formation of the human resources for the attention of the health.

Objective

Evaluate the level of global clinical aptitude and indicators, which are shown by the interns in social service, in the attention of the ten main reasons for consultation in the first level of care.

Method

A quantitative, descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study was conducted in a private sector medical school. A questionnaire was applied, with a validation from the point of view of content, to a population sample of eighty students. The conditions included in the evaluation of clinical aptitude were the ten main reasons for consultation in the first level of care, of which only six components were integrated. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used considering a value of p≤ to 0.05 as statistically significant.

Results

The overall grade point average of the students in all the cases presented was 66.6 (± 9.5) with a minimum value of 53.5 and a maximum of 98.0. A better result of clinical aptitude was observed in diabetes mellitus and its complications, as well as in preeclampsia-eclampsia. In 60% of the participants the level of global clinical aptitude for the attention of the main reasons for consultation in the first level of care, considering chance was located in the middle level. There were no differences according to sex.

Conclusions

The overall clinical aptitude of medical interns for the attention of the main reasons for consultation is adequate.
