Introduction: Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) implies the judicious use of clinical research, for the orientation and making of suitable decisions related to health care. In Mexico, the National Center of Technological Excellence in Health (CENETEC) provides information based on the available evidence through the Main Catalog of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG), with the aim of orienting the physician in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with specific diseases. Objective: To identify the knowledge in Mexican medical students about the existence of CENETEC CPG. Material and methods: This is a cross-sectional, observational study performed in 150 medical students of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) Faculty of Medicine in Mexico. A questionnaire was applied, oriented to explore knowledge about EBM and the existence of the Main Catalog of CPG, as well as their use in clinical decision making. The student population studies in the formative level of our medical school curriculum (6th-10th four-month program blocks). Results: Forty-six students (30.6%) are aware of the CPG-CENETEC. 21.7% Of them heard about the CPG by news in the media, 50% by a physician, 10.8% by a friend/partner and 17.5% by family related persons. 58.7% Think the CPG are complete and orient to a more precise diagnosis. 43.4% Considers that CPG aren't applicable to all types of patients. 67.5% Would use them as the only resource for treatment of disease. 87% Would consider them for future diagnosis. Of these 67.5% would use them because they provide assurance. Finally 65.2% would recommend their use. Conclusion: Awareness of CENETEC CPG in medical students is limited.
