Abstract

PRIETO GONZALEZ, José Manuel  and  TORREGO GOMEZ, Daniel. Rebeldes con causa: nuevos arquitectos para reconectar con la sociedad. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2016, n.12. ISSN 2007-4964.

This essay sheds light on new approaches that, in the framework of the re-invention and re-structuring that the discipline of architecture is undergoing, may turn out to be especially useful in confronting the serious urban problems that affect cities throughout Latin America today in relation to the issue of social inclusion. It posits the possibility of configuring a public body of architects that, dissenting from the obsolete figure of the "star architect", seek to reconnect with society to attend to the most needy and those most seriously affected by unfavorable spatial and material conditions. We believe it is necessary to propose methodologies for action from design up, and to configure a new "toolbox" for activist, pro-active architects sensitized to the marginalities generated by existing urban models. Operating in the social ecosystem first demands questioning the training and capacities of contemporary architects. The city, in essence heterogeneous, multiple, diverse and global, presents challenges to a profession that today, more than ever, must achieve the ability to incorporate greater transversality.

Keywords : architectural rebels; public-social architect; Mexico; informal city; conflictiveness.
