Abstract

RODRIGUEZ MORALES, Zeyda  and  RODRIGUEZ SALAZAR, Tania. Los jóvenes, la comunicación afectiva y las tecnologías: entre la ritualización de la expresión y la regulación emocional. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2016, n.11. ISSN 2007-4964.

In this article we address the communicative practices among young people within their relationships through mobile technologies used for cellular communication and its applications. We are interested in deepening in their communication preferences in given situations and in the use of written language, accompanied by the utilization of icons (keyboard symbols, emoticons, stickers) in order to express emotions of various types and degrees of intensity. The findings reported here come from a broader qualitative research focus on how young people experience their relationships in their technologically mediated communication. Our research results show that young people expressed interest in instant messaging in order to transmit a ritualized expression of their affections that becomes an important component in their relationships. We also found that they can play strategically with different possibilities, and they allocate their communication preferences, voice, text, or video, depending on the situation they are with their partners and the emotional state they want to express or regular. Likewise we established that written communication is accompanied by icons used to print an emotional tone for text messages without the commitment and the requirement implied by the use of the voice. In general, young people shown enormous emotional communication skills in using such resources in diverse and complex ways, displaying a wide range of forms of expression that allow them to communicate effectively with others, and consolidate an area of affective interaction parallel to face to face interaction.
