Abstract

MALDONADO, Carlos Eduardo. ¿Qué es eso de pedagogía y educación en complejidad?. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2014, n.7, pp.1-23. ISSN 2007-4964.

Provided that there is an increasingly interest about the relationship between education and complexity, however there is little, if any, solid advancement based on rigorous arguments concerning the link between complexity and education. Edgar Morin marks the most popular understanding of the relationship between education and complexity in Latin America for a minor text. This paper focuses on a less known perspective on complexity among us, namely the sciences of complexity. Thereafter, the first goal of this paper consists in solving the question regarding the relationship between education and complexity within the framework of the sciences of complexity, whence this paper provides the state of the art. The essay claims that the right space for education in general is not any longer the one provided by the social sciences, and not even the applied. Rather, it is the space of the sciences of complexity, and more particularly, the non-equilibrium social sciences (NESS). This paper justifies such a claim and provides two arguments as supports. These entail understanding education in contexts and times characterized by complexity, as well as clarifying what it means understanding education as an open system. At the end, several conclusions are drawn that enhance the cultural meaning of education and pedagogy within the standpoint of the sciences of complexity.

Keywords : sciences of complexity; learning; non-equilibrium social sciences; epistemology; change.
