Pragmatism is a North American philosophy. Refers explicitly to the philosophical movement driven to 1872 in Cambridge (Massassuchets, United States) the logical and mathematical Charles S. Peirce (1839-1914). Its history is built parallel to sociology and some points of contact with this discipline. While this article is not a history of pragmatism, nor a thorough historiography of the relationship between this philosophy and sociology, it seeks to explore to what extent thinking one is combines the work of the other. This is part of some background to underpin this compatibility, whereas Durkheim criticism towards the pragmatism of William James as a necessary point of entry to this debate, to then examine the relevance of pragmatism where there is a controversy around the legacy of pragmatism early Peirce, James, Dewey and contemporary problems serving new pragmatists like Rorty and Cavell, discussion that ends up getting the spaces of sociological theory on key concepts such as belief, doubt and action whose translation to sociological language allows meet today's old problems founded on the possibilities of the social relationship and the society. Ultimately, this article is not intended to take stock of this discussion but to participate in it, to raise any tracks that allow you to explore how to make Sociology with pragmatism.
