Resumen

GOVELA ESPINOZA, Roberto. Obstáculos epistemólogicos y metodológicos para acercarse a la realidad de las personas con discapacidad intelectual: algunas propuestas. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2012, n.3. ISSN 2007-4964.

This paper discusses the way in which people with an average intelligence (called neurotypical) conceive people with intellectual disabilities as with a lower level of cognition and not as with a different form of intelligencia (described as neurodivergent). This has generated an epistemological obstacle that has prevented a knowing subject’s rapprochement to the disabled people’s reality. This happens from their own point of view and not as a widespread practice coming from the family members, doctors and therapists. At the same time, such a situation has generated not to be conceived as methodological proposals in order to know these people’s daily basic. As a result, this essay suggests, on the one hand, a series of methodological alternatives for dealing with everyone’s life and, on the other hand, options for the execution of studies in this field.
