Abstract

Obesity is a worldwide problem that has been increasing, exist evidence that shows that psychological well-being is a factor associated with the effectiveness of the prevention and treatment of obesity, therefore it is important to evaluate other psychological factors such as coping mechanism with stress and social support that could predict the well-being of this population. The objective was to analyze the impact of stress coping strategies and socio-family support on psychological well-being in people with obesity. The instruments applied were: Coping with Stress Questionnaire, Family and Friends Social Support Scale and Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale, these ones were applied to 286 people with obesity. The results indicate that coping strategies focused on solving the problem and negative self-target, as well as, family support, impact directly on the Psychological Well-being of people with obesity. These results point the predictive effect on the individual and family variable on the wellbeing of people with obesity, that could complement the intervention programs.
