CHAVIRA TRUJILLO, Gabriel  e  CELIS DE LA ROSA, Alfredo. Psychometric Properties of the Big Five Factor Inventory (BFFI) in Mexican Sample. Acta de investigación psicol [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.2, pp.83-94.  Epub 14-Jan-2022. ISSN 2007-4719.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fpsi.20074719e.2021.2.384.

Introduction:

Evaluating personality is increasingly necessary within different research areas. Although there are several options for evaluating the five-factor model; there are few studies that report the characteristics in the Latin-American population.

Objective:

This study presents an analysis of the psychometric properties of the Big Five Factors Inventory (BFFI) that assesses personality following the personality model of the big five.

Results:

The results show an adequate reliability (α = .78) of the test. The evaluation of the exploratory and confirmatory validity suggests that the instrument can be used in the Mexican population, but the need arises to review some items that are culturally equivalent, as well as the agreeableness factor and the associations between factors that could be due to cultural factors.

Discussion:

The incorporation of robust methodologies that consider the ordinal nature of Likert scales, such as factor analysis with the incorporation of the random intercept; They allow to improve the fit of the models without altering the structure of the covariances or using the estimators to adjust the covariances. More research is needed in the Mexican population.
