This essay relates the ideas of two contemporary philosophers: Martha Nussbaum and Jacques Derrida in their argument that Education and Universities provide the necessary arena to bring back the place of the Humanities in education, starting with the Law and its fundamental roll to raise people’s consciousness and the reappropriation of human dignity, dignity that has been diminished up to the point of negation by contemporary political systems who govern the global world up until its destruction. It is indeed an invitation to understand the richness that diversities, alterities and differences imply and the place Universities have had since the Middle Age of being appropriate spaces to discuss all possible questions and why not -as Derrida claims- the place of silence if that is what we need or where we want to kept them. Law has the responsibility to acknowledged in its reason being the aspirations of the “Siècle des Lumiérés”: Freedom, Equality, Laicity, and how we the followers of this discipline need to defend and understand the concepts of this humanist value that makes Law a defender of human dignity and defender against unlimited power and intolerance that only annihilates humanity.
