The Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve (TCBR), located between the states of Oaxaca and Puebla, is characterized by its high biological, geological and cultural diversity, as well as a high percentage of endemic species. In this site is inhabit by the collared peccary Pecari tajacu, red brocket deer Mazama temama and white-tailed deer Odocoileus virginianus, which are widely used by rural communities. However, more information is required for their sustainable management. The aim of this study was to estimate the potential distribution of these species in the TCBR. Data of species presence and 28 layers of environmental information were used to model the potential distribution through the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) algorithm. Considering a total area of ​​4, 906 km² for TCBR, the potential distribution of collared peccary, red brocket deer and white-tailed deer, were estimated at 78%, 3% and 92% respectively. Seven variables explained the distribution of the three species. The results suggest that the environmental characteristics of the TCRB offer better conditions for the presence of white-tailed deer and collared peccary, while for the red brocket, the conditions are marginal. We discuss some possible implications for the management of these ungulates according to ecological, social and cultural needs of the region.
