Abstract

We estimated the abundance of Baird's tapir with 1.01 tracks/km and six photographic records/23 days trap, and its presence in the Protected Area of Flora and Fauna Bala'an Ka'ax (APFFBK), Quintana Roo was confirmed. Based on the local view of the residents, it was determined that the main threat of the tapir is the deforestation and that the most common plant species in its diet are: Brosimum alicastrum, Cecropia obtusifolia and Gramia sp.
