CASTELLANO, Claudia C.; BONAVETTI, Viviana L.  e  IRASSAR, Edgardo F.. Cementos mezclas: influencia del tamaño de las partículas de escoria. Concr. cem. investig. desarro [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.2, pp.2-14. ISSN 2007-3011.

In this paper, the influence of the particle size of slag (Blaine fineness 460, 680 and 900 m2/kg) on the mechanical strength and the hydration degree measured as the non-evaporable water has been studied on cement pastes with variable addition content (20 to 80 %). Both parameters are correlated with the time required to achieve 50 % reaction. For a given fineness and mineralogy of portland clinker, results show that the strength and the non-evaporable water content increase at early ages when increasing the amount of particles smaller than 10 μm in the slag, decreasing the time to achieve the 50 % of reaction. Then, an adequate early strength in blended cements with medium and high slag-content the slag can be obtained from the physical activation by grinding. At later ages, the influence of particle size of slag on the mechanical strength decline significantly. Blended cements achieve similar or greater compressive strength than those obtained by the addition of cement with high slag content of conventional fineness (350 to 450 m2/kg).
