Abstract
GARCIA LOPEZ, Iván. Hugo Gola: cure by words, glossolalia and poetry. Valenciana [online]. 2021, vol.14, n.28, pp.275-290. Epub Oct 18, 2021. ISSN 2007-2538. https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v13i28.597.
This article proposes an analysis of Hugo Gola’s poetry that until now had not been done. We will observe his work in relation to two relevant experiences of his peasant childhood: the cure by words as a practice of argentine esotericism and glossolalia as a phenomenon where magic, mysticism, religion, science and literature are intersected. Based on the poet's testimonies and documents from folklorists (such as Félix Coluccio) and contemporary specialists (such as Juan Bubello), the context of both germinal experiences is reconstructed and their strong correspondence with Gola's verses and reflections is analyzed. Although this poet is usually associated with an anti-clerical and skeptical profile, close to the disenchantment of the world, in his work we find discursive operations and symbolic groups very similar to the cure and glossolalia.
