Resumen

VAZQUEZ HERNANDEZ, Irán Francisco. Octavio Paz: a vision of the Aztec culture. Valenciana [online]. 2017, vol.10, n.20, pp.239-262. ISSN 2007-2538.  https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v0i20.307.

This text aims to be an approach to the image that Octavio Paz had about the Aztec culture. It is argued that the Mexican poet had a critical perspective concerning this culture (wich he considered decadent). This perspective was born in the movement denominated “Nueva imagen del México antiguo”, very much in vogue during the 40´s and 50´s and which transformed the course of Mesoamerican studies. Therefore, this text contrast the ideas of Paz with those of Jacques Soustelle, Laurette Séjourné and León-Portilla.

Palabras llave : Octavio Paz; México; Aztec culture; History; Interpretation.
