Gulliver’s Travels, of Jonathan Swift, is one of the most well-known works in world literature. However, its actual reception, at least in Spain, it ́s produced mostly through adaptations in which it ́s impossible to appreciate the profundity of the original literary work. In this article, I intend to dig deeply into the analysis of Gulliver’s Travels through a comparison with Don Quixote, focusing on the parodic resources: while Don Quixote parodies the books of chivalry, Gulliver’s Travels parodies travel books. The main goal of this comparison will not be to prove some influence of Cervantes’ work in Swift’s work, but to illuminate some aspects of Gulliver’s Travels.
