This text discusses and frames the humanist project designed by Alfonso Reyes for Monterrey, it explores several essays where the writer coined archetypes on the history, vocation and character of the region and its inhabitants. The discussion focuses on his "Voto por la Universidad del Norte" (1933), which proposes the need to renew the humanist tradition. This research also serves to reconstruct part of the dialogue and controversy that has characterized Monterrey's cultural field in the twentieth century.
